Description: Through intentional friendships made with Japanese college students, watch as God unfolds your part in what He is doing in the world's largest unreached people group. Focused mainly on a highly relational ministry style, you'll get a chance to join native and foreign staff as they live life among the Japanese people. We have different activities to encourage your friendships, such as outings, parties, sports, and small-group English classes. Along with sharing your heart with Japanese students and making a lasting contribution to Japan, we offer you the opportunity to be challenged yourself, as Navigator staff will provide stimulating input throughout the summer.
Foundational Scripture: "Even though I am free of the demands and expectations of everyone, I have voluntarily become a servant to any and all in order to reach a wide range of people: religious, nonreligious, meticulous moralists, loose-living immoralists, the defeated, the demoralized — whoever. I didn't take on their way of life. I kept my bearings in Christ—but I entered their world and tried to experience things from their point of view. I've become just about every sort of servant there is in my attempts to lead those I meet into a God-saved life. I did all this because of the Message. I didn't just want to talk about it; I wanted to be in on it!" 1 Corinthians 9:19 (Message)
Total Number of participants
accepted: 30
Applicant Ages: 19 to 25

Accommodations: You will live in
houses or apartments together with Navigator staff and/or
Japanese college students.
Specific Skills: People who have previous experience in a Navigator Short Term Program/Summer Training Program or who have significant involvement with a Nav ministry at a local university will be given preference in the application process.
Ministry Activities: Reaching out to college students in Japan through college clubs, we recruit Japanese students by offering them the opportunity to meet foreigners, to practice English, and to learn about a new culture. Our clubs do different activities with the students including but not limited to: climbing Mt. Fuji, participating in sports camps, practicing conversational English, watching and discussing current movies and media, and taking trips to different parts of Japan. This ministry is for people who can take initiative and "break out" of the ministry mold to befriend students while sharing your life and the Gospel through it.

Once you have been accepted to the program, you will be put in contact with your team leader who will provide more specific details regarding your particular assignment. As well, you will attend one of our training weekends where you will learn about fundraising and how to prepare for your summer.
